Buffalo Bill is one of many famous names from the American Old West. Here are a few famous, or infamous, names you perhaps know.
Jesse James (1847- 1882) Bank and train robber, killer; member of outlaw Clement gang
Bob Ford (1862 -1892) Outlaw, the man who shot Jesse James
Billy the Kid (1859 -1881) Outlaw, gunfighter, member of the Regulators gang
Pat Garret (1850 -1908) Sheriff in New Mexico, bartender, and customs agent; killed Billy the Kid
Bob Dalton, Grat Dalton, Emmet Dalton (called The Dalton Brothers because three of its members were brothers). The gang specialized in bank and train robberies. The oldest brother Frank had been a Deputy U.S. Marshal, but was killed in 1888. In 1890, Gratton "Grat", Bob and Emmet turned to crime after not being paid as lawmen.
Butch Cassidy (1866 -1909) Robber; member of the Wild Bunch gang
The Sundance Kid (1867-1909) Robber; member of the Wild Bunch gang
Doc Holiday (1851 -1887) Dentist, gambler, and gunfighter; was at the O.K. Corral gunfight
John Bozeman (1835 -1867) Pathfinder of the Bozeman Trail. The Bozeman Trail was an overland route connecting the gold rush territory of Montana to the Oregon Trail. Its most important period was from 1863–68.
Kit Carson (1812 -1879) Scout, trapper; much involved with Indian affairs
Wild Bill Hickok (1837-1876) Marksman, professional gambler, gunfighter, scout, lawman. Shot and killed while playing poker in a saloon in the town of Deadwood. He is buried in Deadwood.
Wyatt Earp (1848 -1929) Lawman, gambler; in gunfight at the O.K. Corral, Tombstone, Arizona
Bat Materson (1853- 1921) Gunfighter, gambler, Wyatt Earp's deputy, newspaper columnist

Annie Oakley (1860 - 1926) Sharpshooter and exhibition shooter; starred in Buffalo Bill's Wild West show. There's a Broadway musical comedy written about her : Annie Get Your Gun.
Belle Starr (1848 - 1889) Infamous for rustling, horse stealing, bootlegging whiskey
